100% merino wool sauna hats

Why a sauna hat

Hair care belongs in the sauna.

You care for your hair every day. It deserves the same consideration when you step into the heat.

A sauna hat places an insulating wool layer over your head and the hair it covers. A thoughtful addition to your hair-care routine, in 100% merino wool felt.

Why think about hair protection?

Your hair is exposed to the sauna environment, too. Hair condition, moisture and time in the heat are worth considering as part of your routine.

A 2018 laboratory study by Kim and Cho of hair samples in heated bathing settings observed hair-fibre damage and differences between samples used with and without a cap. This is limited evidence from specific conditions, rather than a test of STILL hats.

For STILL, that makes hair care a meaningful part of the sauna conversation: understand the layer you choose, the hair it covers and how it fits.

01 / The wool

A layer between.

Wool’s crimp can hold insulating air, which resists heat transfer. A wool hat places that material between the sauna air and the hair underneath. This is the material reasoning behind the layer.

02 / The coverage

Think beyond the crown.

Hair left outside the hat remains uncovered. If you have longer hair, check that the style you choose can comfortably accommodate the lengths you want to tuck inside.

03 / The fit

Make room for your hair.

Allow for your hairstyle when choosing your fit. Arrange your hair loosely and avoid forcing it into the crown. A considered fit makes the hat easier to include in your regular routine.

Find your still.

A moment to settle, breathe naturally and pay attention to how you feel. That is the experience we design for: a comfortable fit, a considered material and a little space for yourself.

Follow your sauna’s guidance and take a break whenever you feel uncomfortable. Stillness leaves room to listen to your body.

A closer look

A few good questions.

Can a sauna hat help protect my hair?

The reasoning starts with coverage and insulation: a wool layer sits between the sauna air and the hair it covers. That is why we consider a hat part of a thoughtful approach to hair care in the sauna.

Whether that reduces hair damage, and by how much, requires testing of the finished hat. STILL has not yet tested that outcome, so we cannot promise to prevent dryness, breakage or colour fading.

Why choose wool for a hot room?

Insulation resists heat transfer; it does not produce cooling. Wool’s natural crimp helps hold air within its structure. How a finished hat performs also depends on construction, fit, moisture and sauna conditions.

Do I need a hat to use a sauna?

A sauna hat is an optional accessory. Choose according to your preferences and your sauna operator’s guidance.

Should I stay longer if my head feels less hot?

No. Feeling less hot around your head does not tell you how much heat your whole body is carrying. A hat is not a reason to extend your session or push through discomfort, and has not been shown to increase the health benefits of sauna bathing.

Follow your sauna operator’s guidance and leave the heat whenever you feel uncomfortable. There is no STILL target time to reach.

How should a STILL hat fit?

All three styles have a nominal head size of 60 cm, approximately 23.6 inches. Compare this with your head measurement, allowing for your hairstyle and preferred fit. The hat should sit comfortably without forcing its shape.
